AN APPEAL TO THE PUBLIC
During inspection by Dr. K.Gopal, IAS, Managing Director, Chennai Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board in Thiyagaraya Nagar area, it was observed that some of the big commercial establishments have constructed their terminal collection chamber of their internal waste water disposal system on the side of the road / on the foot path, in violation of rules. In view of the above, solid waste and other plastic waste gets into these chambers, leading to blocking of sewer lines which results in overflow of sewage on the road. The stagnated rain water also enters into such chambers causing heavy pressure on the existing sewer lines in the area. This causes a public nuisance besides causing a physical hindrance to the pedestrians and to the vehicular traffic. The link between chamber and manhole is carried out by Chennai Metropolitan Water Supply & Sewerage Board. As per the existing rule, the chamber has to be constructed within the premises of the property. The terminal collection chamber is the point in which both sullage (kitchen water) and sewage (toilet) from the premises is collected for disposal into the underground sewerage system.
Therefore, public and owners of the commercial establishment are requested to construct / reconstruct the terminal collection chamber of their waste water system (sullage and sewage) within the boundary of their premises so as to avoid any hindrance in maintaining the sewer system.
Co-operation of the public is solicited in this regard. For any technical clarifications required in this regard, the concerned Area Engineer of Chennai Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board may be contacted.
(Issued in the interest of the Public by the Managing Director,
Chennai Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board)
