WATER SUPPLY AND UNDER GROUND SEWERAGE SCHEMES IN AVADI MUNICIPALITY AT A COST OF Rs.261.89 CRORES – DR. K. GOPAL, I.A.S., MANAGING DIRECTOR, CHENNAI METRO WATER ORDERS TO COMPLETE THE WORKS WITHIN SCHEDULE TIME.
Dr. K. Gopal, I.A.S., Managing Director, Chennai Metro Water has ordered to complete the water supply Schemes and Under Ground Sewerage Scheme in Avadi Municipality within the scheduled time which are being carried out at a cost of Rs.261.89 Crores. The water supply and sewerage schemes are being implemented by CMWSSB. Dr. K.Gopal, I.A.S., Managing Director has inspected the ongoing Water Supply and Underground Sewerage Schemes.
The Managing Director informed as follows:-
CMWSS Board is carrying out Water Supply and Under Ground Sewerage Scheme at a total cost of Rs.261.89 Crores in Avadi Municipality. The Water Supply Scheme contemplates construction of 8 Nos. of Over Head Tanks, 7 Nos. of Under Ground Tanks, Distribution main line for a length of 328 km and pumping main for a length of 19 km which are in progress. On completion of this scheme, Avadi Municipality would get 41 mld of water which would benefit 3.4 lakh people. Managing Director ordered to complete the entire work by November 2011.
Besides, the sewerage scheme which is being taken up in five packages contemplates collection system for a length of 326 km, pumping main for a length of 25 km and construction of 17 nos. of pumping station. It is proposed to construct Sewage Treatment Plant of capacity 36 mld at Paruthipattu and 4 mld at Muthapudupet. On completion of this scheme about 3.4 lakh people in Avadi Municipality will be benefited said Managing Director.
The Managing Director, instructed that all necessary safety precautions should be adhered to at works site. Further Managing Director advised the Municipal Officials to revive the Rain Water Harvesting Programme by taking expeditious action.
The Managing Director further ordered that all the sewage pumping stations and water supply head works shall be developed with landscaping so as to have a green belt.
The Managing Director also instructed the officials to co-ordinate with the Avadi Municipality, Railways and NHAI Authorities and to resolve the issues pertaining to the project.
During the inspection of Managing Director, Thiru C. Prakasam, Chief Engineer (Con)-I, CMWSSB along with officials were present.
